Client Profile:
Many of our clients occasionally require one-off project support alongside their regular business needs. Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of assisting with a diverse range of projects—from coordinating book launches and attending expos in Guangzhou, to supporting clients with recruitment. One such project came from a long-time client preparing to publish her first poetry collection, Wonder, Lust & Itchy Feet. She had secured creative control over the book’s layout and cover design from her publisher and had a strong vision for how she wanted her work presented. She engaged us to bring that vision to life.
Our Solution:
1. Manuscript Formatting and Structure: We received a 154-page typed manuscript and were tasked with polishing the document for publication. The client’s Client Manager formatted the content to include:
- Headers, with alternating designs for odd and even pages;
- Clear section breaks reflecting the book’s three themes: wonder, lust, and itchy feet;
- Footnotes and page numbers positioned neatly in the footer.
2. Book Cover Design Collaboration: With a cover image provided by the client, captured in collaboration with a photographer, we worked closely with our freelance graphic designer to develop several cover options. The designer produced:
- Three front cover concepts that interpreted the client’s creative brief;
- A single back cover design that complemented the selected front cover.
- The client chose the front cover that not only aligned with her original vision but also beautifully encapsulated the themes of her poetry.
3. Publisher Coordination and Delivery: We ensured the final manuscript and cover files adhered to the publisher’s technical requirements and deadlines. Working within these constraints, we managed the process smoothly, resulting in the successful release of the book in November 2011.
The Outcome:
With our support, the client launched her first published poetry collection exactly as she had envisioned. The result was a professionally formatted and beautifully designed book that met industry standards while remaining deeply personal.
